2007-08 Season

The Giants need to have a stronger season if they want to keep their coach. New York ticket buyers can expect their team to rebuild a bit, and hold on for an up and down season. Eli Manning is definitely not the franchise QB his brother is. Chris Snee and Shaun O’Hara will be good news for Manning. Reuben Droughns was brought in as an insurance RB. Amani Toomer is the best receiver on this team, and Plaxico Burress is very talented.  So the elements are there, but the holes in the OL remain – and the Giants hope their coach remains as well. Stay tuned for an exciting - if not dramatic -season.

Previous Seasons

In the off-season, the New York Giants made a number of moves to help improve their team. Unlike some teams that had been letting players go during this free agency period, they have been going out and looking to bring guys in to better their team. The team’s biggest move was the pick up of wide receiver Plaxico Burress. Burress is a big time possession receiver that can make the tough catch in traffic. The only problem with Burress is that he hasn’t been very consistent to this point in his career. He was very hot and cold during his stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants officials are hoping that having a strong-armed quarterback like Eli Manning around will make him a little more consistent.

Another boost to the offense should be the Giants newly acquired right tackle Kareem McKenzie who was last with the New York Jets. McKenzie will be one of the keys to the offensive line. He measures out at 6’6” and 327 lbs and is just getting ready to make the jump into the prime of his career at the ripe age of 26. He should help out a team that had countless offensive line problems last season.

The Giants also picked up middle linebacker Antonio Pierce who was with their divisional foe, the Washington Redskins, last season. He led his team in tackles last season with 116. He is the kind of player who is not only a very physical presence, but he also keeps his team on a short leash. He is able to lead his team by making the correct pre-snap calls and changing into other defenses before the snap. The last big name signee the Giants got was kicker Jay Feely who was formerly an Atlanta Falcon. They will have a solid place kicker for the first time in years and he should help out the offense when they can’t push into the endzone.

The offense is led by all-purpose running back Tiki Barber, who is the identical twin of Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber. Tiki, although undersized by NFL running back standards, has been one of the most prolific tailbacks in the entire league. He is not only a threat in the running game, but he also has very soft hands that suit the passing game very well. The Giants offense will need Manning to become a little more consistent this season if they want to have any kind of chance to dethrone the Philadelphia Eagles of their NFC East title. The passing game will also lean a little more on tight end Jeremy Shockey. He is one of the most talented tight ends in all of football. Shockey is a huge guy and is also incredibly quick for his size, which creates a number of matchup problems for the other team in each game.
